How it plays
Kid Niki is viewed from the side and progresses through a sequence of scrolling stages. The main objective is to reach each stage’s endpoint, defeat enemies and bosses, and ultimately rescue the princess.
The player moves, jumps across platforms, avoids hazards, and attacks with Niki’s large spinning sword. Enemies enter from both sides and may require careful timing rather than simple rushing. Stages contain ordinary foes, environmental obstacles, and a boss encounter or final challenge, with progression driven by clearing the current stage.
Plan your run
Use the sword early when enemies approach, but avoid standing directly beneath falling threats or bosses. The blade gives good horizontal coverage, yet Niki remains vulnerable while jumping and when surrounded.
Learn enemy entrances and keep a safe position near the center of the screen. Preserve lives for later stages by treating each boss as a pattern exercise: watch its movement first, then attack during its recovery window.

Kid Niki: Radical Ninja is a 1986 arcade action-platformer developed and published by Irem. It stars Kid Niki, a young ninja who sets out to rescue Princess Margo after her abduction. The game combines side-scrolling platforming with close-range sword combat, using a distinctive spinning blade attack as its defining mechanic. Players guide Niki through compact, hazard-filled stages populated by varied enemies and bosses. Its bright cartoon presentation and fast, immediate controls made it approachable in arcades, while enemy placement and limited lives supplied the challenge expected of the period. The game was well regarded for its lively character design and unusual weapon animation, and it became the first entry in Irem’s Yanchamaru series.
