How it plays

How does Warsong play?

The game uses a top-down, grid-based battlefield. Each scenario has objectives such as defeating an enemy commander, protecting an ally, or reaching a designated location. Commanders move across terrain, recruit troops, and issue orders during alternating turns.

Troops have different strengths and weaknesses, so cavalry, infantry, archers, and other unit types must be matched carefully. Commanders gain experience, may change class, and can improve their personal abilities. Between battles, the player manages deployments, purchases troops, and advances through a story with occasional route choices.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Warsong?

Protect commanders first; losing a commander can cripple the army even when many troops remain.

  • Use terrain and unit matchups rather than advancing every unit at once.
  • Keep support units near commanders, but avoid clustering them where enemy area attacks can reach several units.
  • Spend money on useful troop upgrades and recruit units suited to the next map.
  • Let weakened troops withdraw or finish safe attacks so commanders can gain experience without unnecessary losses.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Read the victory condition before moving, since some scenarios reward defense or movement rather than total destruction.

  2. 2

Save before class changes and major route decisions when possible.

  3. 3

Use commanders to reinforce troops and exploit favorable matchups instead of relying on commander attacks alone.
