How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective and a series of horizontally scrolling stages. The objective is to destroy enemies, avoid projectiles and environmental hazards, collect power-ups, and defeat a large boss at the end of each stage.
The fighter can move in eight directions, fire forward, and use the Force pod to cover different attack angles. The pod can be positioned ahead of or behind the ship and can be launched as a projectile. Progression comes from weapon power-ups and learning stage layouts; losing a life resets some offensive momentum, making survival and positioning important.
Plan your run
Stay near the center of the screen when possible so there is room to react to incoming fire. Move the Force pod ahead of the ship to clear dense enemy formations, then keep it close when its defensive coverage is more valuable.
Learn the timing of each boss pattern rather than holding a fixed position. Preserve lives by prioritizing survival over maximum score, and collect weapon upgrades without moving into unsafe lanes.

Last Resort is a horizontally scrolling science-fiction shoot 'em up developed and published by SNK for arcade systems in 1992. The player pilots a fighter through ruined industrial and orbital environments while confronting a machine uprising and heavily armed guardians. Its defining feature is the Force pod, an energy device that can be positioned around the ship for both attack and defense. The game combines fixed-stage memorization with precise shooting, enemy-pattern reading, and careful pod management. Last Resort was recognized for its detailed mechanical artwork, strong audiovisual presentation, and demanding difficulty. It appealed mainly to experienced arcade players, and is often regarded as one of SNK's more distinctive horizontal shooters.
