How it plays

How does The Lion King play?

The game is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. Each stage asks Simba to reach the goal while surviving enemies, pits, traps, and timed hazards.

Simba begins as a vulnerable cub and later becomes an adult with stronger attacks. He can run, jump, swipe, roar, climb in designated areas, and interact with parts of the scenery. Stages include Pride Lands environments, a wildebeest stampede, elephant graveyard areas, and the final confrontation with Scar.

Progression is linear through film-inspired levels, with passwords used to resume progress.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play The Lion King?

Learn the timing of Simba's jump and swipe before attempting later stages. Avoid rushing into enemies; many hazards are placed immediately after jumps or at the edges of platforms.

Use the roar selectively to affect compatible enemies and objects, and attack from a safe distance whenever the level allows it. As adult Simba, rely on claw attacks but keep enough room to retreat after each strike.

  • Check difficult routes carefully for safe ledges and collectibles.
  • Treat the stampede and Scar stages as pattern-learning challenges rather than speed sections.
  • Use passwords to preserve progress after completing a stage.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

The cub's smaller size changes jump timing and makes some hazards harder to clear.

  2. 2

Do not assume every enemy can be defeated; several are intended to be avoided.

  3. 3

The Genesis version is challenging, so practice enemy patterns before spending lives on a full attempt.
