How it plays
The player views compact side-scrolling stages from a side perspective and controls Wanda with the Super Nintendo Mouse. Mario, Luigi, or Peach moves forward automatically while unable to see; Wanda must clear the object covering the character’s head and help the character reach the goal.
Stages contain enemies, gaps, switches, moving platforms, and other hazards. The player must position Wanda carefully, strike the obstruction at suitable moments, and sometimes use the environment to keep the target safe. Progression follows a sequence of themed stages, with later areas demanding faster reactions and more precise route planning.
Plan your run
Watch the target’s path before striking. Clear the obstruction when the character is in a safe position, not merely as soon as possible.
Use switches, platforms, and enemy movement to create a safe route. On later stages, prioritize avoiding falls and collisions over moving quickly.
The Super Nintendo Mouse provides precise control; keep movements small when lining up Wanda with the obstruction.

Mario & Wario is a puzzle-action game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Super Famicom in 1993. Wario places buckets and other objects over Mario’s head, leaving him unable to see, while the player guides the fairy Wanda through obstacle-filled stages. The game is designed for the Super Nintendo Mouse, which gives its movement and timing challenges a distinctive feel compared with conventional Mario games. Each stage combines route planning, quick reactions, and environmental hazards. Luigi and Princess Peach also appear as playable targets in different circumstances. The game received attention for its unusual mouse-based control scheme and playful presentation, although its specialized peripheral limited its audience outside Japan. It remains a notable experimental Mario spin-off from the 16-bit era.
