How it plays
Mega Man moves through single-screen and scrolling side-view stages, jumping across platforms, avoiding hazards, and firing his arm cannon. Enemies respawn when the screen scrolls or when the player moves away and returns.
Six Robot Master stages are selectable from the opening screen. Defeating a boss grants a special weapon, and each weapon is particularly effective against one other boss. After all six victories, the game unlocks Dr. Wily's fortress stages, which form a fixed final sequence.
Plan your run
Learn the layout and enemy timing of each stage before attempting speedier runs. Small enemies can often be bypassed, but careless movement near pits and ladders is costly.
Use boss weaknesses to conserve health and ammunition. A common efficient route is Guts Man, Cut Man, Elec Man, Ice Man, Fire Man, then Bomb Man, though the opening order can be adjusted to match your comfort. Search for hidden pickups and refill health or weapon energy before entering difficult encounters.

The pause screen is useful for switching weapons and checking the current situation.
Do not rush ladders or disappearing platforms; enemy contact can knock Mega Man into hazards.
Mega Man is Capcom's 1987 action-platformer for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game follows the heroic robot Mega Man as he fights through six Robot Master stages after Dr. Wily turns the robots created by Dr. Light against humanity. Each stage combines precise jumping, enemy patterns, environmental hazards, and a boss encounter. Players can choose the initial stages in any order, then take the weapons of defeated Robot Masters and use their weaknesses to shape the route forward. The game is compact but demanding, with limited recovery resources and lives. Its crisp controls, memorable boss designs, and distinctive weapon system established the series' core formula, although contemporary reception also noted its high difficulty and rough balance.
