How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Mega Man chooses among eight Robot Master stages, defeats enemies and hazards, and reaches a boss at the end of each stage.
Defeated bosses grant special weapons. Players can switch between the Mega Buster and acquired weapons, using the weakness system to plan an efficient stage route. After the eight Robot Masters fall, a sequence of Dr. Wily stages leads to the final confrontation.
Plan your run
Learn the layout of each stage before committing to a route. Metal Man's weapon is especially versatile, while some boss weaknesses make difficult fights much easier.
Use E-Tanks during a boss battle when a defeat would force a long replay. Search suspicious platforms and passages for ladders, energy, and the optional support items, but do not sacrifice safe progress for every pickup.

Mega Man 2 is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Players control Mega Man, a robot hero fighting Dr. Wily and eight newly created Robot Masters. The game combines precise running and jumping with ranged combat, while defeated bosses provide weapons that can exploit other bosses' weaknesses. Its selectable stage order, memorable music, and more approachable difficulty made it a major improvement over the first game. Mega Man 2 was widely praised and became one of the NES's most influential action games, establishing conventions that shaped many later entries in the series.
