How it plays

How does Mega Man 4 play?

The game uses a side-view perspective. Mega Man moves through eight selectable Robot Master stages, defeating enemies, avoiding hazards, collecting items, and reaching a boss room. Each stage has a distinct theme and obstacle pattern.

Mega Man can run, jump, climb ladders, fire the Mega Buster, and charge a stronger shot. Defeated bosses provide special weapons, and the stage order can be chosen to exploit weapon weaknesses. After the eight Robot Masters, a linear fortress sequence leads to the final battles.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Mega Man 4?

Learn each stage's hazards before rushing forward, and use the Mega Buster's charged shot against sturdy enemies. Search for hidden routes and item pickups, but avoid unnecessary damage when a screen can be crossed safely.

Boss weaknesses make the Robot Master order important. After acquiring a weapon, test it against bosses and conserve weapon energy for effective openings. In the fortress, prioritize safe positioning over speed and use E Tanks only when a difficult section or boss is likely to end the attempt.
