How it plays
Mega Man moves through horizontally scrolling stages from a side-view perspective. Each of the eight Robot Master stages contains enemies, platforms, traps, minibosses, and a final boss whose weapon becomes available after victory.
Players can run, jump, fire the arm cannon, charge shots, and switch among acquired weapons. Defeated Robot Masters unlock the route to the remaining stages, while Rush abilities and the Beat support item expand movement and combat options. After the initial eight stages, the game continues through Dark Man stages and Dr. Wily's fortress.
Plan your run
Use stage weaknesses to make Robot Master battles safer, but do not rely on them exclusively: Mega Man's charged shot is effective against many enemies.
Search platforms and side paths for Energy Tanks, letters, and support items. Rush Coil helps reach high ledges, while Rush Jet is valuable in long horizontal sections. In fortress stages, conserve weapon energy and learn boss patterns before committing to attacks.

Mega Man 5 is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Mega Man is called into action after Proto Man apparently kidnaps Dr. Light, forcing him to confront eight Robot Masters and uncover the truth behind the crisis. The game follows the series' familiar run-and-gun structure, combining precise jumping, charged shots, selectable weapons, and hazardous obstacle courses. Its stages are more forgiving than several earlier entries, while the large sprites, colorful presentation, and memorable soundtrack give it a distinctive identity. Contemporary and retrospective reception has generally regarded Mega Man 5 as a polished, accessible sequel, although some players consider its challenge and boss designs less demanding than those of earlier NES installments.
