How it plays
The game uses a first-person view for towns, wilderness, castles, and dungeons. Movement is tile-based, while encounters and environmental hazards are resolved from the exploration screen.
Players create or recruit a party of up to six characters, assign classes, improve attributes and skills, equip weapons and armor, and learn spells. Combat is turn-based and allows physical attacks, defensive actions, spell use, and item use. Quests, trainers, magical fountains, transport routes, and dungeon puzzles provide progression across the world.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party with dependable front-line fighters, at least one character able to cast healing or support magic, and specialists for exploration skills. Save often before entering dungeons, using fountains, or attempting difficult encounters.
Keep several weapon and spell options available because enemies vary widely in resistances. Return to towns regularly to heal, restore spell points, train when eligible, and sell surplus equipment. Map dungeon routes and note locked doors, teleporters, traps, and one-way passages.
Meet the cast
A legendary adventurer whose history and actions are closely tied to the conflict surrounding CRON.
The principal antagonist, a dangerous figure whose plans threaten the world of CRON.
Before you begin
Save before major dungeon expeditions and before testing suspicious fountains or magical effects.
Use different damage types and status cures instead of relying on one attack spell.
Do not neglect training and attribute improvements; later areas assume a developed party.
Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World is a first-person fantasy role-playing game developed for the Super Nintendo by Iguana Entertainment and based on New World Computing's computer RPG. The player forms a party of adventurers and explores the world of CRON, completing quests, gathering treasure, and confronting the Guardian Sheltem. The game combines grid-based dungeon exploration with turn-based combat, character development, spell casting, and extensive equipment management. Its large world, six-character party, and open-ended quest structure make it a substantial console RPG for its era. Reception generally recognized the depth and ambition of the original design, although the interface and amount of text can feel demanding compared with more streamlined SNES role-playing games.
