How it plays
Monster World IV uses a side-scrolling perspective with interconnected towns, fields, dungeons, and combat rooms. Asha explores each area, defeats monsters with her sword, opens routes, and searches for keys, treasure, and equipment.
Dungeons combine platforming with switches, hazards, moving platforms, and environmental puzzles. Pepelogoo can assist with traversal and problem solving. Progression comes from finding better weapons, armor, shields, and health upgrades, while story progress unlocks new areas and temples.
Plan your run
Explore thoroughly before leaving an area, because chests often contain equipment, health increases, or useful money.
Use Pepelogoo deliberately in dungeons. Carrying, throwing, and positioning the creature can reveal routes and solve environmental puzzles.
Upgrade Asha's equipment when possible, and learn enemy attack patterns instead of relying only on repeated sword swings.
Meet the cast
The young warrior protagonist who sets out to investigate a mysterious call for help.
A small blue creature that accompanies Asha and helps her cross gaps, activate mechanisms, and solve puzzles.
Before you begin
Search side rooms for chests and health upgrades.
Keep Pepelogoo close when entering puzzle rooms.
Save money for stronger equipment and recovery items.
Monster World IV is a 1994 action RPG and platform adventure developed by Westone Bit Entertainment and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It follows Asha, a young warrior who travels through a colorful fantasy world after hearing a mysterious plea for help. Exploration, sword fighting, platforming, light puzzles, and equipment upgrades form the core of the experience. The game is notable for replacing the series' usual male hero with Asha and for introducing Pepelogoo, a blue companion that expands movement and puzzle options. Its bright presentation, accessible structure, and polished mechanics earned it a positive reputation, although the original release remained less widely known outside Japan until later reissues.
