Sub-Zero
Bi-Han, the original Sub-Zero, is the protagonist. He is a Lin Kuei assassin sent to recover an ancient amulet.
How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. Sub-Zero travels through stages, defeats enemies, avoids traps, finds keys and items, and reaches an exit or boss encounter. Levels include ladders, platforms, hidden routes, hazards, and environmental puzzles.
Combat uses punches, kicks, ice techniques, jumping attacks, and defensive movement. Experience earned during play can improve Sub-Zero's abilities, while later stages introduce stronger enemies and more demanding layouts. The Nintendo 64 version is a single-player campaign with no competitive fighting mode.
Plan your run
Learn the reach and recovery time of each attack instead of repeatedly pressing buttons. Short, controlled attacks are safer than long strings when several enemies surround Sub-Zero.
Explore slowly for keys, health items, and experience opportunities. Save stronger ice techniques for dangerous enemies or bosses, and use blocking, spacing, and jump timing rather than trying to rush through traps.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Midway San Diego and published by Midway Games for the Nintendo 64. It follows the original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, as he searches for an ancient amulet and becomes involved in a conflict surrounding the fallen god Shinnok. The game combines exploration, combat, platforming, environmental hazards, and light role-playing progression. Unlike the main fighting games, its story is presented through cinematic scenes and stage-based adventure levels. Reception was mixed: critics appreciated the expanded mythology, voice work, and ambitious presentation, but commonly criticized the stiff controls, difficult platforming, and uneven combat. It remains notable as one of Mortal Kombat's earliest attempts to expand its narrative beyond a tournament fighter.
