How it plays
Matches use a side-on, scrolling field view. The objective is to score more points than the opposing team by advancing the ball, completing passes, and stopping drives through tackles and other disruptive plays.
Players select plays before each snap, then control the active player during the play. The game includes offensive and defensive situations, special hazards, penalties, and a season structure in which team performance affects continued progress. Its mutant rules and dangerous field elements make positioning and risk management as important as standard football fundamentals.
Plan your run
Learn the basic offensive and defensive play patterns before relying on the field hazards. A safe short play is often preferable to a risky deep attempt when protecting a lead.
Watch the active player indicator and switch control promptly on defense. Use the environment and unusual rules as opportunities, but avoid unnecessary fouls and hazardous routes that can cost possession or players.

Mutant League Football is an American football game developed and published by Electronic Arts for the Sega Genesis in 1993. It presents the sport as a violent fantasy competition between mutant teams, replacing ordinary stadiums with hazardous fields and allowing players to exploit unusual rules and environmental dangers. The game combines a recognizable football structure with arcade-like action, so strategy and timing matter alongside direct control of the ball carrier. It includes exhibition-style play and a season-oriented progression system. Contemporary and later reception has generally praised its distinctive humor, aggressive presentation, and unusual setting, although some players find the controls and rules less approachable than those of conventional football simulations.
