How it plays
Ninja Combat is viewed from a horizontal side-scrolling perspective. The objective is to move through successive stages, defeat groups of enemies, overcome hazards, and clear each stage with a boss encounter or major confrontation.
Players control Joe or Hayate and can strike nearby opponents, jump over threats, and use weapons found during a stage. Enemies arrive in groups from both sides, so positioning and timing are important. The arcade structure is built around repeated combat encounters, limited health, and continuing after defeat rather than character-level progression.
Plan your run
Stay near the center of the screen so approaching enemies can be seen from either side.
Use jumping to avoid crowded attacks, then counterattack when enemies are recovering. Pick up weapons when safe, but do not advance blindly into the next group; conserving health is more valuable than rushing.
In two-player play, divide attention between opposite sides of the screen and avoid striking through your partner's position.

Ninja Combat is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by ADK and published by SNK for arcades in 1990. The game follows two ninjas, Joe and Hayate, as they battle through urban and industrial stages against an enemy force threatening the city. Its play style combines close-range attacks, jumping, throwable weapons, and temporary weapon pickups in a straightforward arcade format. Players can choose between the two protagonists, whose basic combat roles are broadly similar. The game was recognized as an early ADK arcade release and later became associated with the Neo Geo library, although contemporary reception was generally mixed. Its appeal comes mainly from fast cooperative action, colorful character designs, and a deliberately exaggerated ninja theme.
