How it plays
Players choose a One Piece character and fight opponents in side-view arenas. The objective is to reduce the rival's life gauge before the time limit expires, using normal attacks, movement, defense, and character-specific techniques.
The single-player game advances through a sequence of battles, while versus play allows direct matches. Success depends on learning attack reach, controlling distance, avoiding damage, and using openings to apply stronger moves. The WonderSwan's small control layout keeps the command system relatively compact.
Plan your run
Stay close enough to punish missed attacks, but avoid repeatedly attacking without defense. Short attacks are safer for testing an opponent's range than immediately committing to a special move.
Watch the life and time gauges together. When ahead, prioritize blocking and positional control; when behind, take calculated risks only after creating a clear opening.

From TV Animation One Piece - Grand Battle Swan Colosseum is a 2002 fighting game developed and published by Bandai for the WonderSwan. It adapts the early One Piece world into compact one-on-one battles, using recognizable characters and attacks from the series. Matches take place in two-dimensional arenas and emphasize direct strikes, jumping, guarding, and special techniques rather than complex combination systems. The game is designed around short portable sessions, with a single-player progression structure and versus play. Its appeal is primarily archival and fan-oriented: it offers a distinct handheld interpretation of One Piece, although its limited presentation and hardware constrain the scale of its battles.
