How it plays
The game uses a side-on perspective with movement across horizontal stages and occasional vertical lanes. The objective is to defeat enemy waves, collect useful items, and reach a boss at the end of each stage.
Players move with the joystick, attack with A, and jump with B. Progress depends on managing crowd control, avoiding contact damage, learning boss patterns, and conserving opportunities to use stronger attacks or items. Arcade cabinets may support multiple players, but cabinet configuration can vary.
Plan your run
Stay near the center of the screen so incoming enemies can be seen from both sides. Use short attack strings against ordinary enemies, then reposition before a crowd surrounds you.
Against bosses, prioritize learning the warning animations for charges and projectiles. Save health-restoring or offensive items for difficult encounters rather than spending them immediately on regular enemies.

Use the edges of the stage carefully, since some bosses can trap a player there.
Oriental Legend is a side-scrolling arcade beat 'em up developed and published by IGS. It draws on the Chinese pilgrimage legends associated with the Journey to the West, placing a small team of heroes in a combat-focused adventure against monsters, soldiers, and supernatural bosses. Players advance through handcrafted stages, combining normal attacks, jumps, special techniques, and collected items. Its colorful character art, large enemy groups, and elaborate bosses reflect the design style of late-1990s coin-operated action games. The game is especially remembered in Asian arcade circles for its distinctive setting and responsive combat, although its difficulty and limited availability outside the region made it less widely known internationally.
