How it plays

How does OutRunners play?

The game uses a third-person chase view behind the player's car. Races take place on branching road sections, and the objective is to reach each checkpoint before time expires while avoiding traffic and maintaining speed.

Players choose from different cars and drivers, then steer through a sequence of routes. Successful checkpoint runs extend the timer and lead to further stages; collisions, sharp turns, and missed route changes reduce momentum. The Genesis release also supports competitive two-player racing when the appropriate multiplayer setup is available.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play OutRunners?

Prioritize clean lines over maximum speed. Brake before sharp bends, then accelerate as the car points toward the exit of the turn.

Learn the route branches and choose roads that match the car's handling. In multiplayer, avoid unnecessary contact and use the full width of the road to defend the racing line.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use early braking for tight corners rather than steering late at high speed.

  2. 2

Checkpoint time is more important than taking risks for a small speed advantage.

  3. 3

Practice route branches so turns are anticipated instead of reacted to.
