Pac-Man
The player-controlled character who clears the maze, collects items, and avoids or attacks ghosts.
How it plays
The game uses an overhead maze view. Pac-Man moves through corridors, eats pellets, and avoids ghosts; power items can temporarily change the balance by allowing ghosts to be attacked.
Rounds become more demanding as enemy movement and maze pressure increase. Bonus objects and Pal add timing considerations beyond ordinary pellet clearing, so route planning and controlled use of opportunities are central to progression.
Plan your run
Plan routes before entering dangerous corridors, and avoid collecting every bonus object immediately if doing so creates a poor escape position.
Use power opportunities for controlled ghost attacks rather than chasing enemies recklessly. Keep an exit route open and learn the timing of Pal-related interactions.
Meet the cast
The player-controlled character who clears the maze, collects items, and avoids or attacks ghosts.
A supporting character whose appearances and item-related behavior are part of the game's distinctive mechanics.
Pursuing enemies that patrol the maze and cost a life when they catch Pac-Man.
Before you begin
Prioritize safe maze clearance over unnecessary ghost pursuits.
Watch enemy positions before committing to a narrow corridor.
Treat bonus items as timing opportunities, not automatic objectives.
Pac & Pal is a 1983 maze-action arcade game developed and published by Namco. It builds on the Pac-Man formula with a familiar overhead maze, collectible items, roaming ghosts, and a supporting character named Pal. The player guides Pac-Man through successive rounds, clears pellets, and collects bonus objects while managing enemy patterns and limited escape routes. The game is notable for changing the classic formula rather than simply reproducing it. Its unusual item interactions and comparatively uncommon arcade release gave it a smaller historical footprint than Pac-Man, but it remains an interesting Namco variant for players studying the evolution of the series.
