Transfer play uses a separate on-screen control interface.
How it plays
The action is viewed from above, with each spacecraft deck represented as a connected screen. The objective is to survive, eliminate or capture hostile droids, and work through the ship’s population while seeking safer and more powerful bodies.
Droid 001 can fire at enemies, but direct combat is dangerous. When positioned correctly, the player can initiate a transfer and compete on a circuit-like control screen to seize the target. Captured droids provide different capabilities and strengths, while destruction or a failed transfer ends the current attempt. Deck layout, enemy rank, and limited opportunities make progression a matter of choosing encounters carefully.
Plan your run
Use the weakest useful droid as a stepping stone rather than attacking powerful targets with droid 001. Study enemy movement, isolate targets when possible, and avoid entering a transfer against a droid whose control pattern or rank gives it a clear advantage.
Plan movement around the deck layout and preserve escape routes. Capturing a stronger body is valuable, but reckless transfers can leave you trapped or return you to a weak droid. Treat weapons as a way to create space as well as deal damage.

Before you begin
Learn the transfer display before attempting to capture high-ranking droids.
Use corridors and screen boundaries to separate enemies.
Do not assume the strongest visible droid is the safest target.
Paradroid is an action-strategy game designed and programmed by Andrew Braybrook and published by Hewson Consultants for the Commodore 64 in 1985. The player controls the small, vulnerable droid 001 aboard a drifting spacecraft populated by hostile machines. Rather than relying only on weapons, the game’s defining idea is the ability to invade another droid and take control of it through a separate electronic transfer contest. Its single-screen deck displays, compact controls, and escalating enemy hierarchy give the game an unusual blend of arcade reflexes and tactical decision-making. Paradroid was well received for its technical achievement, original concept, and depth, and it became one of the notable British home-computer games of the mid-1980s.
