How it plays

How does Pole Position II play?

The cabinet presents a third-person view from behind the player’s car. A race begins with a qualifying section; successful qualification leads to the main event, where the goal is to complete the course before the timer runs out.

Players steer, accelerate, and brake while avoiding rival cars and roadside obstacles. Four selectable circuits provide different layouts and scenery. Passing cars and reaching checkpoints extend the available time, while collisions reduce speed and can waste valuable seconds. Progress is score- and time-based rather than divided into a persistent career mode.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Pole Position II?

Brake before tight corners instead of entering them at full speed, then accelerate as the car straightens.

  • Learn the opening turns of each circuit and use the road edges as visual braking references.
  • Avoid unnecessary contact with rival cars; recovering from a collision usually costs more time than a cautious pass.
  • Treat qualifying as a route-learning phase and preserve speed for the race itself.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use gentle steering inputs to maintain speed through long bends.

  2. 2

Watch the timer and prioritize clean checkpoint approaches over risky overtakes.
