How it plays
The game uses a side-view scrolling perspective. Players move through linear stages, defeat waves of infantry and machines, and overcome large boss encounters before advancing to the next area.
A joystick controls movement, while attack and jump buttons support punches, jumps, throws, and weapon use. Enemy machines can provide replacement arms, legs, and other equipment, creating temporary changes to range, mobility, and damage. The arcade version supports cooperative play for up to three players.
Plan your run

Powered Gear: Strategic Variant Armor Equipment is a 1994 side-scrolling science-fiction beat ’em up developed and published by Capcom for arcades. Players control one of three pilots in a modular combat machine and fight through a war-torn future using punches, weapons, grabs, and detachable armor parts. Its play style combines traditional belt-scrolling action with mecha customization, allowing equipment taken from enemies to change the machine’s abilities. The game was well regarded for its responsive combat, large mechanical enemies, detailed animation, and inventive equipment system. It was released internationally as Armored Warriors, while the original Japanese title remained Powered Gear.
