Frank Castle
The Punisher and primary playable vigilante, fighting the Kingpin's criminal organization.
How it plays
Players move through horizontally scrolling stages, defeating successive groups of criminals before confronting a stage boss. Frank Castle or Nick Fury can punch, kick, jump, pick up weapons, and use objects found in the environment.
The route is mostly linear, but enemy formations and available weapons vary between sections. Progression is stage-based rather than character-growth based; success depends on conserving health, controlling crowds, and using firearms and heavy objects at useful moments.
Plan your run
Keep enemies in front of you and avoid being surrounded. Short attack strings followed by repositioning are safer than standing in one place.
Use guns and throwable objects to remove dangerous enemies quickly, but do not waste limited ammunition on weak opponents. In two-player mode, split targets carefully and rescue a partner who is being crowded.
Meet the cast
The Punisher and primary playable vigilante, fighting the Kingpin's criminal organization.
A playable ally who joins Frank in the two-player mode.
The crime lord who serves as the game's principal antagonist.
Before you begin
Use the screen edges to limit the directions from which enemies can approach.
Pick up weapons promptly, but discard them when close-range combat becomes safer.
Save health-restoring items for sections with dense enemy groups or bosses.
The Punisher is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Sculptured Software and published by Capcom Entertainment for the Sega Genesis in 1994. It adapts Marvel Comics' vigilante Frank Castle, who attacks the criminal empire controlled by the Kingpin. The game supports solo play and a two-player mode, with Nick Fury joining Frank as the second playable character. Its stages combine hand-to-hand combat, firearms, throwable weapons, and environmental objects. The Genesis version was generally regarded as a strong home conversion of Capcom's arcade game, although its reduced audiovisual presentation and hardware limitations distinguish it from the original cabinet.
