How it plays

How does R-Type Leo play?

R-Type Leo is viewed from the side as the player-controlled fighter travels through continuously scrolling stages. The objective is to survive enemy formations, environmental hazards, and a boss at the end of each stage.

Players move in eight directions, fire the main weapon, collect power-ups, and use the ship's Bits as additional offensive tools. The game can be played alone or cooperatively by two players. Progression is stage-based, with stronger enemy patterns and bosses appearing as the game advances.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play R-Type Leo?

Stay near the center of the screen when possible so that threats approaching from above or below remain visible. Fire continuously while watching enemy entrances and terrain rather than focusing only on the current target.

Collect weapon upgrades carefully and use the Bits to cover angles that the main shot cannot reach. In two-player games, coordinate movement to avoid blocking escape routes and concentrate fire on bosses.
