How it plays
The player pilots a fighter through vertically scrolling stages, destroying airborne and ground targets while avoiding bullets, collisions, and environmental hazards. The main objective is to reach and defeat each stage boss.
Weapon pickups improve the fighter's shot and can provide alternate weapon types. Bombs clear or weaken threats and offer temporary protection, but they are limited. The arcade game uses a fixed sequence of stages, with progression based on survival and boss victories rather than character or equipment development.
Plan your run
Stay near the lower portion of the screen, but leave enough room to move around incoming patterns. Collect weapon items deliberately and avoid risky detours when enemy fire is dense.
Save bombs for crowded patterns, difficult boss phases, or situations where escape is unlikely. Learn the entry points of larger enemies and destroy dangerous targets before focusing on score items.

Before you begin
Prioritize survival over collecting every power-up.
Keep moving in small, controlled patterns to avoid intersecting bullet streams.
Use bombs before becoming trapped rather than waiting for a perfect opportunity.
Raiden II is a 1993 vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up developed and published by Seibu Kaihatsu. It continues the series' mechanized science-fiction conflict, placing the player in the Raiden fighter against waves of aircraft, ground installations, ships, and massive bosses. The game uses a fixed vertical perspective and traditional arcade controls, emphasizing precise movement, rapid firing, and careful bomb use. Its weapon system expands on the original with additional shot types and a more varied power-up route. Designed for coin-operated play, Raiden II is structured around short, demanding stages rather than a persistent story campaign. It was well received for its polished presentation, forceful weapon feedback, memorable boss encounters, and high difficulty, and it became one of the better-known arcade entries in the series.
