How it plays
Rastan Saga uses a side-view perspective. The objective is to traverse a sequence of horizontally scrolling areas, defeat ordinary enemies, avoid traps, collect useful items, and reach the boss at the end of each stage.
Rastan can walk, jump, climb ladders, and attack with his equipped weapon. Weapons and power-ups found during a stage can improve his reach or damage, but their effects are temporary. Progression is stage-based, with increasingly dangerous enemies, hazards, and bosses.
Plan your run
Learn enemy attack ranges before committing to a swing, especially against armored opponents and bosses. Keep moving through open areas, but slow down near pits, projectiles, and ladder sections.
Collect weapon upgrades when they provide a clear advantage, and avoid wasting attacks on enemies that can be bypassed safely. Against bosses, prioritize recognizing their movement pattern and attacking during recovery windows.

Before you begin
Preserve your life by treating pits and moving hazards as seriously as enemies.
Use jump attacks and weapon reach to control crowded platforms.
Temporary weapons are most valuable against bosses or dense enemy groups.
Rastan Saga is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Taito for arcade systems in 1987. The player controls Rastan, a barbarian warrior fighting through dangerous fantasy regions with a sword and a small selection of temporary weapons. Its play style combines deliberate platforming, close-range combat, environmental hazards, and large boss encounters. The game was recognized in arcades for its imposing character animation, dramatic fantasy presentation, and demanding difficulty. It established Rastan as one of Taito’s notable action series and received ports and follow-up games, although the arcade original remains the reference version for its pacing and audiovisual impact.
