How it plays

How does Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention play?

Outside combat, Max explores towns, speaks with residents, recruits allies, purchases equipment, and prepares the party. The caravan stores characters and supplies as the army expands.

Battles take place on square or irregular grids. Each unit can move, attack, cast magic, use items, or perform a special class action. Victory usually requires defeating all enemies or reaching a stated objective. Characters gain experience, change class after reaching the required level, and improve through weapons, spells, and promotions.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention?

Build a balanced force rather than relying on one class. Keep durable melee units in front, protect healers and spellcasters, and use terrain to limit enemy approaches.

Spend experience carefully and rotate weaker recruits into safe attacks when possible. Promote characters at or after level 20 when practical, and check shops after major story developments for stronger equipment.
