How it plays

How does Sonic the Hedgehog Classic Heroes play?

Classic Heroes is played from a side-view perspective. The objective is to guide a team through platforming stages, collect rings, defeat enemies, avoid hazards, and reach the end of each act. Stages use branching routes and familiar momentum-based movement rather than a fixed, single-path layout.

Sonic provides speed and standard jumping, Tails can fly for a limited time, and Knuckles can glide and climb certain surfaces. The player changes the active character to match the obstacle ahead. Progression comes from completing stages and acts, with survival, exploration, and access to alternate routes shaping each run.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Sonic the Hedgehog Classic Heroes?

Use the character whose ability best matches the terrain instead of maintaining one hero everywhere. Sonic is useful for open ground and timed sections, Tails for vertical exploration, and Knuckles for climbing and gliding routes.

Keep a reserve of rings before risky jumps, learn the position of hazards, and explore alternate paths when a stage offers them. Momentum is valuable, but slowing down is often safer when approaching springs, moving platforms, or blind drops.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Switch characters before committing to a jump that requires flying, gliding, or climbing.

  3. 3

Replay stages to learn alternate routes and safer approaches.
