How it plays
Classic Heroes is played from a side-view perspective. The objective is to guide a team through platforming stages, collect rings, defeat enemies, avoid hazards, and reach the end of each act. Stages use branching routes and familiar momentum-based movement rather than a fixed, single-path layout.
Sonic provides speed and standard jumping, Tails can fly for a limited time, and Knuckles can glide and climb certain surfaces. The player changes the active character to match the obstacle ahead. Progression comes from completing stages and acts, with survival, exploration, and access to alternate routes shaping each run.
Plan your run
Use the character whose ability best matches the terrain instead of maintaining one hero everywhere. Sonic is useful for open ground and timed sections, Tails for vertical exploration, and Knuckles for climbing and gliding routes.
Keep a reserve of rings before risky jumps, learn the position of hazards, and explore alternate paths when a stage offers them. Momentum is valuable, but slowing down is often safer when approaching springs, moving platforms, or blind drops.
Meet the cast
The fastest member of the team, specializing in rapid movement and standard platforming.
A fox who can fly briefly by spinning his twin tails, allowing access to elevated routes.
A powerful climber who can glide and interact with terrain that the other heroes cannot.
Before you begin
Switch characters before committing to a jump that requires flying, gliding, or climbing.
Collect rings early; taking one hit is safer than attempting a difficult section empty-handed.
Replay stages to learn alternate routes and safer approaches.
Sonic the Hedgehog Classic Heroes is an unofficial Sega Genesis platformer created by Flamewing and other contributors. It draws on the classic Sonic formula while focusing on cooperative-style team play with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles available in a single adventure. The game presents side-scrolling action, momentum-based movement, rings, hazards, enemies, and large stage routes. Its central idea is switching between the three heroes so their different abilities can be used to cross terrain and reach alternate paths. As a fan project rather than an official Sega release, it has been noted for ambitious technical work and its unusual combination of classic Sonic mechanics.
