How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Spider-Man advances through horizontally scrolling stages, defeating enemies, avoiding hazards, and reaching the end of each area. His movement includes jumping, punching, and using web attacks to handle enemies or interact with the environment.
Progression is stage-based and focused on surviving encounters until the next section. The Genesis release is a single-player action game with no documented multiplayer mode. Boss encounters and stronger enemy formations provide the main changes in difficulty as the adventure continues.
Plan your run
Use Spider-Man's mobility instead of standing in prolonged close combat. Jump over hazards when possible, attack enemies from a safe distance with web abilities, and learn the timing of each stage's moving threats.
Conserve opportunities to recover health and approach boss encounters cautiously. Many difficult sections become more manageable when enemies are handled one at a time rather than rushed.

Spider-Man is a 1991 action platformer for the Sega Genesis, developed by Western Technologies and published by LJN. It adapts Marvel's wall-crawling superhero into a side-scrolling adventure built around traversal, combat, and the use of web-based abilities. Players guide Spider-Man through urban stages filled with ordinary criminals and super-powered enemies. The game emphasizes direct arcade-style action rather than exploration-heavy level design, with hazards and opponents placed along a mostly linear route. Contemporary reception was mixed. Reviewers generally recognized the appealing comic-book premise and Spider-Man's distinctive abilities, while criticizing uneven controls, difficulty, and presentation. It remains a period superhero action title rather than one of the franchise's most celebrated adaptations.
