How it plays

How does Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition play?

Choose a fighter and battle through a sequence of one-on-one matches. A round is won by reducing the opponent's life before the timer expires; the first fighter to win two rounds takes the match.

Players move laterally, jump, crouch, block, throw, and perform character-specific special moves. Arcade mode culminates in battles against the four boss characters, while Versus mode supports direct two-player competition. The Hyper Fighting rules increase the pace and adjust move properties compared with the earlier Champion Edition format.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition?

Learn one dependable normal attack, one anti-air option, and the special moves that control space. Do not throw fireballs automatically; vary their timing so the opponent cannot jump over them predictably.

Block low against grounded attacks, watch for jump-ins, and punish missed heavy attacks. In Versus mode, study the opponent's habits between rounds rather than repeating the same approach.
