How it plays

How does Street Fighter II: The World Warrior play?

Players select one of eight regular fighters and fight one-on-one matches against computer-controlled opponents or another player. Each match is normally won by taking two rounds before the timer expires.

The arcade ladder leads through regional opponents and ends with the four boss characters. Fighters use punches, kicks, throws, jumping attacks, crouching attacks, and character-specific special moves. Winning matches increases the challenge, while bonus stages appear between portions of the ladder.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Street Fighter II: The World Warrior?

Learn the spacing and timing of one fighter before trying to master the full roster. Use light attacks to interrupt unsafe approaches, and reserve heavy attacks for clear openings.

Watch the round timer and opponent habits. Blocking, crouching under appropriate attacks, and punishing recovery are generally safer than constantly attacking. Practice each character's special moves and learn which normal attacks can cancel into them.
