How it plays

How does Street Fighter II: Champion Edition play?

Players choose a fighter and face opponents in best-of-three-round matches. The objective is to reduce the opponent's vitality before the timer expires; a round can also be decided by the remaining health when time runs out.

The arcade ladder uses character-specific stages and ends with the four boss encounters. Players control movement, jumps, normal punches and kicks, throws, blocks, and special techniques through an eight-way joystick and six attack buttons. The game also supports two-player versus matches and mirror matches.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Street Fighter II: Champion Edition?

Learn the timing and range of normal attacks before relying on special moves. Blocking is essential: hold away from the opponent to defend, and watch for throws or attacks that must be answered at close range.

Use the stage layout and timer deliberately. Practice one reliable attack sequence for opening an opponent, then punish missed special moves or unsafe jumps. In versus play, observe the opponent's habits instead of repeating the same approach.
