How it plays

How does Street Fighter II – Special Champion Edition play?

The game uses a side-view, two-dimensional arena. A round is won by depleting the opponent's vitality before the timer expires; the first fighter to win the required number of rounds takes the match.

Players choose a fighter, defeat opponents in a ladder, and face increasingly difficult matches. Arcade mode supports one-player progression, while versus mode allows two players to fight. Each character combines punches, kicks, throws, unique special moves, and a distinct balance of speed, reach, and power.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Street Fighter II – Special Champion Edition?

Learn the range and recovery of each fighter's basic attacks before relying on special moves. Whiffing a heavy attack can leave you open to a counterattack.

Use blocking, crouching, and controlled movement to manage distance. Anti-air attacks are important against jumping opponents, while throws punish close-range blocking. In single-player mode, observe the computer's repeated patterns and respond with safe attacks rather than rushing.
