How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Players move through eight linear stages, defeating groups of enemies before confronting a stage boss.
Axel, Blaze, and Adam have different reach and speed characteristics. Basic attacks can be combined into short combos, while jump attacks, throws, weapons, and a limited special attack provide additional options. In two-player mode, both players share the screen and must coordinate their movement.
Plan your run
Control enemy groups by keeping them in front of you and avoid being surrounded. Use throws to remove individual threats quickly, then pick up weapons when several enemies approach.
Save the special attack for crowded situations or difficult bosses. In two-player mode, avoid attacking through your partner and split enemy groups so that neither character is trapped against the edge of the screen.

Streets of Rage is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Sega AM7 and published by Sega for the Genesis in 1991. Players choose a former police officer and battle a criminal syndicate through a crime-ridden city, using punches, throws, weapons, and special attacks. The game supports one or two players and presents a focused sequence of eight stages with a boss at the end of each area. Its responsive controls, memorable electronic soundtrack, and cooperative play made it a well-regarded Genesis action title and established the series as one of Sega's defining beat 'em up properties.
