How it plays
The game uses a side-on perspective and is divided into eight stages. Players move horizontally through streets, factories, amusement areas, and other locations while defeating groups of enemies and reaching each stage boss.
Attacks include normal strikes, throws, jumping attacks, special moves, and weapon attacks. Up to two players can cooperate in the main game. Each character has different speed, power, range, and move properties, while health is restored through food items and progression comes from clearing stages rather than gaining levels.
Plan your run
Keep enemies in front of you and avoid being surrounded. Use throws to interrupt groups, then reposition before attacking again.
Save special attacks for dangerous crowds or bosses, and learn each character's reach and recovery time. In two-player games, avoid striking your partner and alternate attacks on the same target when possible.
Meet the cast
A balanced former police officer with dependable speed, power, and close-range attacks.
A technically skilled fighter with strong mobility, throws, and effective combo potential.
A very fast fighter who can run and move quickly, but has lower strength than the heavier characters.

Before you begin
Food restores health; collect it only when it is useful, since some items disappear after the area is cleared.
Weapons have limited usefulness and can be dropped or thrown, so do not rely on them against every enemy.
Boss patterns become easier to read when you keep a safe distance and punish their recovery animations.
Streets of Rage 2 is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Ancient and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. Players take control of one of four fighters as they battle through a city controlled by the returning crime boss Mr. X. The game emphasizes close-range combat, enemy positioning, weapon use, and cooperative play rather than exploration or character statistics. Its colorful graphics, animated combat, varied soundtrack, and responsive controls were widely praised. It is commonly regarded as one of the strongest beat 'em ups of the 16-bit era, and its improved roster and combat system made it a notable successor to the original Streets of Rage.
