How it plays

How does Super Mario All-Stars play?

The collection uses a side-scrolling perspective. Each included game has its own stage map, level rules, enemies, power-ups, and end goal, usually requiring the player to reach a flagpole, defeat a boss, or complete a specialized objective.

Players run, jump, stomp enemies, collect coins, and use items such as Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Stars. Super Mario Bros. 3 adds an overworld map, suits, inventory items, and optional routes. Save files allow progress to be resumed in the revised games.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Super Mario All-Stars?

Learn the movement and jump timing of each included game separately; their physics are not identical.

  • Search suspicious blocks for power-ups, coins, and hidden areas.
  • Preserve a Fire Flower or Super Leaf when approaching difficult rooms.
  • Use the save feature between major stages, especially in The Lost Levels and later worlds.
