How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Players move Superman through linear stages, defeat groups of enemies, and continue toward a boss encounter or other stage-ending confrontation.
Movement is handled with an eight-way joystick, while separate attack buttons provide Superman's basic punches and kicks. Flying and powerful attacks help him reach enemies at different heights and clear crowded areas.
A second player can join cooperatively. Progress is stage-based, and continuing after defeat depends on the arcade machine's available credits.
Plan your run
Stay mobile rather than trading blows with large enemy groups. Clear nearby opponents before advancing, and use Superman's aerial movement to manage enemies positioned above or below the main path.
Save powerful attacks for crowded encounters and bosses. In two-player games, divide enemies between both players instead of striking the same target unnecessarily.

Before you begin
Use the full vertical play area to avoid being surrounded.
Approach bosses cautiously and attack during recovery openings.
Cooperative play makes crowd control easier, but players should spread out.

Superman is a 1988 side-scrolling arcade beat 'em up developed and published by Taito. The player controls Superman as he battles criminals, super-powered enemies, and larger villains across Metropolis and other dangerous locations. Its play style combines straightforward close-range attacks with Superman's distinctive flying movement and powerful special abilities. The game supports cooperative two-player play, with both heroes advancing through the same stages. It was recognized as a solid licensed action game, particularly for its comic-book presentation and cooperative combat, although its simple structure and repetitive fighting keep it firmly within the conventions of late-1980s arcade beat 'em ups.
