How it plays
The player guides Taz through horizontally scrolling stages viewed from the side. Each level requires careful movement across platforms, pits, hazards, and enemy encounters while collecting food and reaching the goal.
Taz can run, jump, and use his spinning attack to defeat or bypass threats. Food helps maintain his health, and progression comes from completing successive stages with increasingly demanding layouts and enemy patterns.
Plan your run
Use the spin attack selectively rather than charging into every enemy. Check platforms and hazards before moving quickly, and collect available food so mistakes do not end a stage prematurely.
Learn enemy movement patterns and approach narrow platforms slowly. Taz’s momentum can make precise positioning difficult, especially near pits and moving obstacles.
Meet the cast
The playable Tasmanian Devil who spins through dangerous stages in search of food.
Before you begin
Keep food reserves high before entering hazardous sections.
Use short, controlled movements near pits and narrow platforms.
Do not rely on spinning when a jump can avoid an enemy safely.
Taz-Mania is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Recreational Brainware and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis in 1992. It stars Taz, the Tasmanian Devil from the Looney Tunes universe, as he travels through hazardous environments while searching for food and surviving attacks from native creatures. The game combines traditional platforming with Taz’s distinctive spinning attack and appetite-based health system. Its colorful presentation and cartoon license gave it strong shelf appeal, while contemporary reception was generally mixed to positive, with reviewers often praising the character animation and accessible play but noting repetitive level design and uneven difficulty.
