Mowgli
The human child controlled by the player, traveling through the jungle and facing its dangers.
How it plays
Players guide Mowgli through side-scrolling jungle stages viewed from the side. The main objective is to explore each area, collect required items, avoid hazards, defeat enemies, and reach the stage exit.
Mowgli can run, jump, climb, and attack with his jungle-themed weapons. Stages include platforms, vines, water, pits, and hostile animals. Progression is based on completing levels in sequence, with later areas demanding more precise movement and better timing.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of jumps before moving quickly through a stage. Explore side paths for gems and useful items, but do not rush into unfamiliar screens where enemies or pits may be hidden.
Use vertical routes carefully: vines and platforms often require deliberate positioning rather than simply holding forward. Preserve health for difficult sections and study enemy movement before attempting close-range attacks.

The Jungle Book is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Virgin Studios London and published by Virgin Interactive for the Sega Genesis in 1994. It adapts the Disney version of Rudyard Kipling's story, casting the player as Mowgli on a journey through the Indian jungle. The game combines running, jumping, climbing, and combat with exploration across dangerous natural environments. Mowgli must collect gems and other objects while searching for a way through each stage. Its colorful presentation and animated-film license attracted attention, while contemporary responses were mixed because of uneven difficulty, collision detection, and level design.
