How it plays

How does Thunder Force III play?

The game uses a side-view perspective and scrolls horizontally through five selectable stages, followed by a final sequence of battles. The objective is to survive enemy formations, environmental hazards, and large bosses while destroying the ORN threat.

The ship fires continuously when the chosen weapon button is pressed. Players collect weapon capsules to expand their arsenal, switch weapons to match situations, and use the ship's speed and positioning to avoid attacks. Defeat sends the player back to a limited stock of lives and continues; completing all stages leads to the ending.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Thunder Force III?

Choose early stages according to the weapon you want to obtain, since different routes can make later encounters easier. Keep moving while watching enemy entrances, and avoid staying directly beside bosses where contact or sudden attacks are difficult to escape.

Preserve powerful weapons for bosses, but switch to a safer weapon when a narrow passage or dense formation makes aiming difficult. Learn each boss's attack rhythm rather than relying only on rapid fire.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Collect weapon capsules whenever possible, but do not risk a life for an unsafe pickup.

  2. 2

Memorize stage order, enemy entrances, and boss patterns through repeated attempts.

  3. 3

Use movement and positioning defensively; continuous firing alone is not enough.
