How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. ToeJam and Earl travel through themed Funkotron stages, platform across terrain, avoid hazards, and locate Earthlings hiding in the scenery.
Captured Earthlings are stored in jars and must be returned to the mothership. Players can collect presents and other items, switch abilities, and use exploration skills to reach concealed routes. Two players can cooperate locally, with each controlling one character.
Plan your run
Search each area carefully rather than rushing to the exit. Earthlings can hide behind scenery or in side paths, so check platforms, corners, and alternate routes.
Save useful items for difficult jumps or crowded sections, and coordinate movement in two-player mode so one character does not leave the other behind.
Meet the cast
A red, three-legged alien rapper and one of the two playable protagonists.
A large orange alien and ToeJam's friend, partner, and second playable protagonist.
Before you begin
Explore side paths before advancing; hidden Earthlings and presents are easy to miss.
Use the two-player mode to divide searching and platforming duties.
ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron is a side-scrolling platform adventure developed by ToeJam & Earl Productions and published by Sega for the Genesis in 1993. After the events of the first game, ToeJam and Earl return to Funkotron to remove troublesome Earthlings who have followed them home. Players explore colorful stages, search for hidden areas, and capture humans in jars while using humorous items and abilities. The game supports solo and cooperative play, replacing the original game's randomized overhead exploration with a more traditional platforming structure. Reception was generally positive for its personality, music, and two-player fun, although some players found its progression less open-ended than the original.
