How it plays
Matches use a side-view perspective and two-dimensional stages. The objective is to defeat an opponent in rounds using punches, kicks, special moves, throws, and character-specific finishing techniques.
The main progression is a ladder of fights ending with powerful bosses. Versus play supports direct competition, while practice and other options vary by release. Winning depends on spacing, blocking, jump attacks, special-move timing, and learning each fighter’s combo routes.
Plan your run
Learn one dependable combo, one anti-air response, and the special moves that control space. Blocking patiently is important because many reckless attacks can be punished.
Against bosses, avoid jumping repeatedly and use short attacks at a safe distance. Practice confirming a hit before committing to a long combo, and use the stage edge carefully so you are not trapped.

Editorial context
A content-rich SNES fighting game that preserves much of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3’s arcade identity, although the conversion has technical limitations.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is a 2D arcade fighting game developed for the Super NES by Sculptured Software and published by Williams Entertainment. It expands the Mortal Kombat formula with a larger roster, faster combat, chain combos, new arenas, and additional tournament modes. Players choose a warrior and fight through increasingly difficult opponents while confronting Shao Kahn’s invasion of Earthrealm. The SNES version is technically reduced from the arcade release, but it remains a substantial home conversion with familiar characters, fatalities, and competitive one-on-one play. Reception generally praised its content and speed while noting compromises in graphics, sound, and some roster details.
