How it plays
The game uses a strategic world-map perspective during voyages and menus or town screens for most decisions. Players sail between ports, buy and sell cargo, recruit crew, improve ships, gather information, and trigger events tied to their chosen protagonist.
Campaign objectives vary: a merchant may build wealth, an explorer may chart discoveries, and a military leader may seek naval victories. Fleets can fight at sea, while port facilities and investment gradually improve access to resources. Progress comes from money, equipment, reputation, discoveries, and story milestones.
Plan your run
Begin by selecting a clear specialization rather than trying to master every system immediately. Merchants should compare prices between nearby ports, while explorers should maintain supplies and prioritize ship improvements that increase range.
Keep reserve funds for repairs, crew wages, and unexpected events. Recruit capable officers, avoid unnecessary battles early, and use information from taverns and guilds to identify profitable routes or useful discoveries.

Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons is a historical role-playing and strategy game developed and published by Koei. Set during the Age of Discovery, it lets the player choose one of six protagonists and pursue personal goals through exploration, commerce, naval warfare, treasure hunting, and diplomacy. The game combines menu-driven management with travel across a large world map and story events in port cities. Each protagonist offers a different campaign structure and starting position, giving the game considerable replay value. Its open-ended design and detailed economic systems were widely respected, especially among players who enjoyed slower, systems-focused adventures. The Sega Genesis version brought this ambitious Japanese computer and console design to a Western audience, although some information-heavy interfaces require patience.
