How it plays

How does Virtua Fighter 2 play?

Matches are viewed from a close third-person perspective around a circular or bounded arena. The objective is to defeat the opponent by reducing their health, knocking them out of the ring, or winning more rounds before time expires.

Players combine directional movement with Punch, Kick, and Guard inputs. Fighters have distinct stances, throws, attack strings, reversals, and defensive options. Arcade progression consists of successive one-on-one battles, ending with a difficult boss encounter, while versus play lets two players compete directly.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Virtua Fighter 2?

Learn the relationship between attacks, guards, and throws before attempting long combos. Use sidesteps and spacing to avoid linear attacks, and watch the ring boundary because a ring-out is an immediate victory.

Practice a small set of reliable attacks for neutral play, punishment, and knockdowns. Against the computer, block patiently and punish recovery rather than attacking continuously; against human opponents, vary timing and mix throws with mid and low attacks.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Guarding is essential; attacking into an opponent's defense can leave you vulnerable to a throw.

  2. 2

Use the arena edge carefully, since positioning can matter as much as remaining health.

  3. 3

Each fighter has different reach, speed, and recovery, so test move properties in repeated matches.
