How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. Players guide an X-Man through linear stages, defeat enemies, avoid hazards, and reach the end of each area. Different heroes provide different attack patterns or movement advantages, so choosing an appropriate character can make particular sections easier.
Progression is stage-based, with combat encounters and platforming challenges leading toward larger confrontations. The main focus is learning enemy patterns, conserving health, and using each hero's mutant ability at the right distance. There is no known role-playing progression system or free-roaming world.
Plan your run
Learn the reach and timing of the currently selected hero before committing to close combat. Ranged attacks are safer against enemies positioned on narrow platforms, while melee-focused attacks require more deliberate spacing.
Move cautiously through unfamiliar sections, watch for hazards before advancing, and avoid trading damage with ordinary enemies. When a stage permits character choice, select the hero whose attack style best suits the upcoming platforming or combat sequence.

X-Men: Gamemaster's Legacy is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Western Technologies and published by Sega for the Game Gear in 1995. It uses Marvel's X-Men license for a mission-driven adventure in which mutant heroes confront threats connected to the Gamemaster. The game emphasizes direct combat, platform navigation, and the distinct abilities of selectable X-Men rather than exploration or role-playing systems. Its compact stages, character switching, and portable presentation reflect the design priorities of late-generation Game Gear action games. Reception has generally been mixed: the licensed roster and variety of powers are appealing, while the controls, collision behavior, and difficulty can feel uneven. It is best approached as a straightforward handheld superhero platformer rather than a deep adaptation of the comic books.
