How it plays

How does Fatal Fury: King of Fighters play?

Players choose Terry, Andy, or Joe and fight through a sequence of opponents in a tournament. Each match is won by defeating the opposing fighter before the time limit expires, with rounds and health management determining the result.

Combat combines punches, kicks, throws, jumping, crouching, special moves, and movement between two parallel fighting planes. The opponent roster includes both regular fighters and later bosses, while the ending changes according to the selected character.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Fatal Fury: King of Fighters?

Learn when to change planes rather than relying only on jumps. Plane shifts can evade attacks and create opportunities for counterattacks, but they are not a substitute for blocking.

Use each protagonist's special moves sparingly, watch the opponent's recovery animations, and preserve health for the later bosses. Throws are especially useful at close range when an opponent repeatedly blocks.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use plane movement to escape corner pressure and approach from a different line.

  2. 2

Do not spend every opening on a special move; normal attacks and throws are safer at close range.

  3. 3

Study boss attack patterns before committing to long combinations.
