How it plays
Matches take place on two parallel battle lines. A fighter can move between the foreground and background planes to evade attacks or change position, while normal attacks, throws, jumps, crouches, special moves, and desperation attacks form the core of combat.
The main arcade route consists of successive one-on-one bouts against computer-controlled opponents. Players win rounds by reducing the opponent’s life before time expires. The roster includes returning heroes, rivals, and bosses, with each character using a distinct set of attacks and special techniques.
Plan your run
Control the distance rather than attacking continuously. Use the two planes to avoid projectiles, escape corner pressure, and force opponents to reposition.
Learn the range and recovery of each normal attack before relying on special moves. Throws are effective at close range, while desperation attacks should be reserved for situations where their damage or interruption potential matters.
Against the computer, observe its repeated responses to jumps, projectiles, and plane changes. Punish recovery instead of trading attacks whenever possible.

Fatal Fury Special is a 1993 arcade fighting game developed and published by SNK. It is an expanded revision of Fatal Fury 2, retaining the series’ two-plane battle system while adding returning fighters, balance changes, and faster competition. Players choose a martial artist or boss character and fight through a sequence of one-on-one matches, with victories advancing toward a final confrontation. The game is built around deliberate spacing, projectile control, throws, special moves, and attacks between the foreground and background planes. It was well received in arcades for its large roster, responsive combat, and improved pace, and it became one of the most recognized entries in SNK’s early fighting-game catalog.
