How it plays
The game uses a side-on perspective and supports one or two players. The objective is to advance through a sequence of stages, defeat enemy formations, rescue hostages, collect weapons, and destroy a large boss at the end of each mission.
Players can walk, jump, crouch, shoot in several directions, throw grenades, and board vehicles or other usable machines. Metal Slug 3 is notable for branching paths, underwater sections, transformations, and environmental hazards. Temporary weapons and vehicles expand the player's firepower, while losing a life normally removes most carried equipment.
Plan your run
Conserve heavy weapons for dense enemy groups and bosses rather than spending them on isolated targets. Learn enemy spawn points, especially in narrow passages where jumping blindly can cause a collision.
Explore alternate routes when possible, but do not rush into unfamiliar areas. Rescue hostages and collect weapons safely, use vehicles to absorb damage when appropriate, and keep moving during boss patterns instead of staying directly beneath projectiles.

Before you begin
Use short bursts when aiming near hostages or explosive scenery.
Crouching can reduce exposure while preserving the ability to fire.
Branching routes are worth learning because they change hazards and resources.
Metal Slug 3 is a side-scrolling run-and-gun arcade game developed and published by SNK. Players control a soldier battling hostile forces, strange creatures, and extraterrestrial threats across a military science-fiction campaign. Its play style combines precise shooting, fast movement, destructible scenery, vehicles, and optional routes that make successive runs meaningfully different. Released in 2000, the game was widely praised for its detailed animation, varied stage design, memorable bosses, and demanding but readable arcade challenge. It is often regarded as one of the strongest entries in the Metal Slug series, although its difficulty and limited-credit structure can be unforgiving for newcomers.
