How it plays
The game uses a two-dimensional side view. Each stage asks the player to move from left to right, defeat Phalanx forces, avoid hazards, and reach the exit or complete a stage-specific objective.
Players can jump, attack, use a character's mutant ability, climb or traverse environmental features, and collect power-ups. The campaign changes playable characters as it progresses, with each hero offering different ways to handle enemies and terrain. The game is primarily a single-player campaign with sequential stages and no character leveling system.
Plan your run
Learn the strengths of each character rather than using one attack everywhere. Ranged attacks are useful against turrets and flying enemies, while melee fighters should use short attacks and retreat before being surrounded.
Explore platforms and side paths for power-ups, but avoid rushing into unfamiliar screens. Save special abilities for durable enemies or crowded areas, and watch enemy patterns before crossing hazardous sections.

X-Men 2: Clone Wars is a side-scrolling action game developed by Headgames and published by Sega for the Genesis in 1995. It follows the X-Men as they investigate the Phalanx, a techno-organic threat that is producing dangerous clones and absorbing life-forms. The game combines platforming, melee combat, mutant powers, and shooting across compact, hazard-filled stages. Players can control several familiar heroes, each with distinct movement and attack abilities, while Magneto becomes available during the campaign. Its unusual opening, varied cast, and responsive character handling earned it a stronger reputation than many licensed superhero games of its era. The difficulty and occasionally awkward level layouts remain its main limitations.
