The exact effect of a mutant power varies by character.
How it plays
Players move through side-scrolling stages, defeating enemies, avoiding hazards, and reaching boss encounters. Each mutant has a different attack range, movement feel, and special power.
The game supports one or two players. Progression follows a fixed stage sequence, with health and mutant-power resources making careful movement and combat important. Platforming sections and environmental hazards break up the regular fights.
Plan your run
Learn the timing and range of the selected mutant's normal attack before relying on special powers. Clear enemies from a safe distance when possible, and avoid rushing into groups or environmental hazards.
Save mutant power for crowded encounters and bosses. In two-player mode, divide attention between enemies on opposite sides of the screen and avoid blocking one another's movement.

Before you begin
Use each character's attack range to control enemy spacing.
Do not spend mutant power on isolated weak enemies.
Search the edges of platforms carefully before moving into the next encounter.
X-Men is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by Konami for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Based on Marvel's mutant superhero team, it lets players control Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, or Nightcrawler while fighting through dangerous stages and confronting familiar enemies. The game combines beat-'em-up combat, platforming, character-specific attacks, and limited mutant powers. It supports solo play and two-player cooperative play. Reception was mixed: players often praised the recognizable roster and comic-book atmosphere, while criticism focused on uneven difficulty, repetition, and occasional awkward controls. Its unusual final-stage presentation also made it a memorable Genesis title.
